Following retirement in the late 1960's, John L. Grove set out on a cross country RV trip. After spending numerous years establishing his family built crane company with his brother, John had no idea that this trip would bring forth the rise of JLG Industries, Inc. The world leader of mobile aerial work platforms and precision materials handling technologies was the end result of a road trip.
Whilst on their trip, John spent time talking to previous business associates whom the Groves stopped to visit along the way. These conversations combined with a tragic incident two workers being electrocuted on scaffolding when the Groves were traveling to the Hoover Dam John discovered a considerable market for a product that could quickly and safely elevate individuals in the air to accomplish maintenance and other building functions.
Upon returning from their travels, John formed a partnership with two friends and obtained a metal fabricating business in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. In 1970, opening operations with a crew of twenty staff, they manufactured and sold the first JLG aerial work platform. The company incorporates many of the basic design elements of that original lift into existing versions.
Since then, JLG Forklifts have come a great distance from when Mr. John L. Grove came back from his fatefull cross-country journey and since the first JLG aerial platform entered the market. As of today, the business has extended itself into a number of international marketplaces and continues to cultivate modern machinery to ensure that clients are able to become safer and more well-organized within their workplace.
